Crock Pot Pork Roast – crock pot season is here, and it is time for pure comfort food! Super easy pork roast made in the crock pot with just a few simple ingredients. It is great for any night of the week.
As soon as the weather turns a little chilly I am looking for comfort food. This crock pot pork roast is pretty high up on the list of things that I am looking for. There is just something about the tender pork over mashed potatoes and gravy that gets me every time.
This pork roast recipe in the slow cooker is made with onion soup mix, and it is going to be a staple in your house. It is just a couple ingredients that you throw together and it comes out super flavorful, comforting, and the whole family loves it!
How to Cook a Pork Roast In Crock Pot
- Place the pork loin in the bottom of your slow cookers
- Sprinkle a package of onion soup mix over the pork.
- Pour in the chicken stock.
- Cover and cook on low 8 hours.
It really could not be any simpler. The pork cooks with the soup mix and the stock all day and it comes out perfectly tender and juicy! To finish it I mix some of the pan drippings with a packet of gravy mix for a quick gravy to serve over mashed potatoes.
If you like to make gravy from scratch, you could take the drippings that are in the bottom of the pan and make gravy. I have never mastered the art of gravy, possible because I hardly ever eat it, so I rely on the packets.
How Long To Cook Pork Roast In the Crock Pot
All crock pots are different and the newer ones seem to cook way faster than they used to. So it can take a little practice to get to know your slow cooker and come up with the perfect time. For a 3-4 pound pork loin it takes approximately 8 hours on a low heat. I almost never turn mine to high because it just dries out the food. A little fat on the meat helps to keep things moist if you end up leaving it a little bit too long.
If you are using a pork shoulder, I like to do closer to 10 hours to make sure it is really tender. The shoulder is a little bit tougher and needs just a little bit more time to really break down and become delicious. The shopping list for this recipe is relatively short. But that is great, because you can keep them on hand at all times to make this recipe any day of the week.
What you need to make Slow Cooker Pork Roast:
- Pork Loin Roast. 3-4 pounds is perfect.
- Packet of onion soup mix
- Chicken Stock (I use low sodium)
- Packet of pork gravy mix
If I am using a larger roast, I like to cut it in half, so that the outside does not get over cooked before the center is done. Most of the pork loin roasts you can buy in the store these days are around the same weight. So you shouldn't have to worry.
A crock pot pork roast can be great for entertaining or just a quick weeknight meal. I love being able to make crock pot recipes on busy days. I can just add everything in the morning and then when we are home and ready, dinner is waiting for us!
Can I Add Vegetables To This Pork Roast Recipe?
There is plenty of liquid in the crock pot, so you could easily add your favorite vegetables in with the pork. They will cook and be tender and delicious when the roast is done.
- Baby Carrots
- Celery
- Sliced Potatoes
I put the pork roast in the crock pot in the morning and my house smells amazing all day. One down side of working from home when you use the slow cooker, is you are hungry all day long!
What to Serve with Pork Roast
- Oven Roasted Potatoes
- Roasted Edamame
- Scalloped Potatoes
- Biscuits
- Roasted Green Beans
My son is a huge fan of mashed potatoes and gravy lately, so that seemed like the perfect base for a pork roast. I used a packet of pork gravy, and in place of the water called for, I just used the juices in the crock pot. The pork roast was so tender and delicious. Definite comfort food for any night of the week!
